Class - Silk & Salvage - Foundation Piecing
Foundation Piecing with Silk and Salvage by Sue Fox and Julia McLeod
Sunday October 13th 1.30 to 4.30 pm
Learn & practice a great technique for making new quilts from rescued materials–– Sue Fox and Julia McLeod will share a successful technique for using Foundation By The Yard (a Benartex product) as a base for working with silk fabrics and more.Piecing onto a printed foundation adds stability to your quilt, results in accurate piecing, and locks in those fraying edges. We'll demonstrate how to piece two designs: Flying Geese and New York Beauty. Buy one sample piece from us for a few dollars or purchase a 44” panel for $10.
Do you have a stash of Grandpa's ties? Leftovers from making silk pillows or garment making? Old silk scarves? Join us as we demonstrate a great way to tame silk's challenging qualities and guide you in your project of choice.
Bay Quilts sells gorgeous bundles of Dupioni silks. Use these as a starting point or add them to fabrics you already have. In this afternoon workshop you can combine an array of fabrics from silk ties and garments to cottons from your stash to create a beautiful pillow cover – or make a start on something larger like our class sample, the Pomegranate quilt.
Your silk or salvaged fabrics - bring what you have: Neckties, furnishing silks, dress-maker's scraps, any interesting treasures.
