Class - Beginning Quiltmaking by Michelle Wyman
Workshop 2 Days
Saturday, September 14th & Sunday, Septemmber 15th (12-4pm)
Learn to construct the classic Log Cabin block. Michelle Wyman will demonstrate how to construct the "Sunshine and Shadows" log cabin block by guiding you with your fabric choices to vary in value and color creating the lighter side and darker side of this block. In class you will construct four large blocks using basic piecing skills. Once the blocks are constructed you can "play" with various orientations of this block before settling on your final pattern. You will learn to nest the seams in the final construction as well as sew a boarder to complete the top.
¼ yard each of 6 to 7 fabrics of lighter color value
¼ yard each of 6 to 7 fabrics of darker value
¼ yard for the center squares. (Choose a contrast to the log cabin strips. If the strips are made up of mainly warm colors choose a cool color or visa versa for contrast.) The fabric can be “fussy cut” to emphasize a design.
Approximately 3/4 yard fabric in colors similar to the center squares to be cut into four 4 ½” by 44” strips.
Approximately 1 ½ yard of backing fabric. ( Enough for a 44” to 44.5” square.)
A 45” square of batting
Thread, pins, rotary cutter, acrylic rulers (large square as well as a long ruler), self healing mat, iron, ironing surface, spray starch (I like Best Press), Sewing machine with a ¼” foot, and a walking foot
