Vivian is creating some awesome pieces of art! She makes beautifully designed floorcloths from our fabric!!
Floorcloths predated linoleum as a way to cover dirt floors in colonial times. Heavy cotton duck, often taken from the sails of ocean vessels, were used as a base. Designs were painted onto them, and then coated with a shellack or wax to preserve and enhance the materials.
Instead of painting Vivian is thinking outside of the box and uses textiles to create her floorcloths! The fabric is decoupaged to stiffen it, then decoupaged again to where to the backing of a pre treated cotton duck. The final coating is an application of water based polyacrylic.
We LOVE what Vivian is creating and can't wait to see what she makes next!
